A comparison page should help you choose, even when the right choice is the other tool. Most don't. They're written by vendors about their rivals ("X vs Y", "X alternatives"), and AI assistants quote them as if they were neutral reviews. thebiasindex.com scores how one-sided each one is, using five published yes/no questions.
It is built by Whimsical. Whimsical is monitored under the same rules as every other company. The method, the code and the data are open on GitHub under the MIT license, and every score links to the live page so anyone can check it.
Why we built it
What we think of these pages is in The anatomy of a SaaS comparison page: every product is somehow easier, more powerful and cheaper than everyone else, depending on whose page you read. Whimsical doesn't publish pages comparing itself with competitors, and the index checks that too. The index doesn't take that post's word for anything: it scores every company, Whimsical included, with the same five questions.
What we don't do
- We don't fact-check claims or rate products.
- We don't republish the pages; we link to them.
- We don't score non-English pages, pages that need JavaScript to render, or user-generated content.
Prototype status
This is a prototype. Scores come from OpenAI's gpt-6-luna classifier. On pages it was never tuned
on, it agrees with labels written by one model and cross-checked by two others on 80–95% of answers, depending
on the question; only a few of those labels have been checked by a person so far. The
methodology has the numbers, including the three checks that miss their target.
